Galvanised Steel at a Glance

Galvanised steel is renowned for its resistance to corrosion due to its zinc coating, which is applied through the hot-dip galvanisation process. Its low-cost, durable, and low-maintenance qualities make it the perfect choice for a variety of industrial and construction projects.

The Advantages of Hot-Dip Galvanisation

The hot-dip galvanisation process forms a protective zinc coating on the steel, which prevents rust and prolongs the tank's lifespan. In addition to functioning as a physical barrier, the coating provides cathodic protection. This means that even if part of the steel is exposed, corrosion is minimal. It is an economical process, requiring little maintenance and guaranteeing greater robustness against impact and damage.

Magnelis Galvanised Steel Tanks

Galvanised steel tanks can be reinforced with a metallic coating called Magnelis. This process involves adding magnesium and aluminium to a zinc bath, which provides increased protection from corrosion, particularly in coastal zones (C5-M zones). This solution offers better protection compared to traditional galvanised steel tanks, making it well suited for extremely corrosive environments.

FAQs – Galvanised Steel Tanks

Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about galvanised steel tanks, their lifespan, corrosion resistance, and the types of liquids they can store.

What is the lifespan of hot-dip galvanised tanks?

A hot-dip galvanised tank can last several decades, depending on the environment in which it is installed. Generally, it has a lifespan of 20 to 50 years.

How is galvanised steel protected against corrosion?

Galvanised steel is coated with a layer of zinc, which acts as a physical barrier. This layer also provides cathodic protection, meaning it protects even the damaged areas.

What types of liquids can be stored in these tanks?

Galvanised steel tanks can store a variety of liquids, such as potable water, process water, industrial effluents, and other non-corrosive liquids. For more aggressive liquids, Magnelis-coated tanks are recommended.
