Galvanised Steel at a Glance
Galvanised steel is renowned for its resistance to corrosion due to its zinc coating, which is applied through the hot-dip galvanisation process. Its cost-effectiveness, durability, and low maintenance requirements make it a widely used solution for a variety of industrial and construction projects.
The Advantages of Hot-Dip Galvanisation
The hot-dip galvanisation process forms a protective zinc coating on the steel, which prevents rust and extends the service life of the tank. In addition to functioning as a physical barrier, the coating provides cathodic protection. This means that even if part of the steel is exposed, corrosion remains limited. It is an economical process, requiring little maintenance and providing enhanced resistance to impact and mechanical damage.
Bolted Galvanised Steel Tanks and Magnelis
Galvanised steel tanks can be reinforced with a zinc-magnesium-aluminium coating such as Magnelis®. This process involves incorporating magnesium and aluminium into the galvanising process, which provides enhanced corrosion protection, particularly in highly corrosive coastal environments (C5-M classification). This solution offers superior corrosion resistance compared with standard galvanised coatings, making it well suited for extremely corrosive environments.

FAQs – Bolted Galvanised Steel Tanks
Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about galvanised steel tanks, their lifespan, corrosion resistance, and the types of liquids they can store.
What is the lifespan of hot-dip galvanised tanks?
A hot-dip galvanised tank can last several decades, depending on the environment in which it is installed. Generally, it has a lifespan of 20 to 50 years.
How is galvanised steel protected against corrosion?
Galvanised steel is coated with a layer of zinc, which acts as a physical barrier. This layer also provides cathodic protection, meaning it protects even the damaged areas.
What types of liquids can be stored in these tanks?
Galvanised steel tanks can store a variety of liquids, such as potable water, process water, industrial effluents, and other non-corrosive liquids. For more aggressive liquids, Magnelis-coated tanks are recommended.
Our Other Tanks
Our bolted galvanised steel tanks are widely used in many sectors: fire protection, drinking or industrial water storage, elevated water tanks and sludge treatment basins. Their versatility makes them valuable for storing various industrial liquids. Explore their many applications here.
