Stainless Steel at a Glance

Stainless steel is a engineered alloy, composed of iron and chromium, offering excellent corrosion resistance. Its composition makes it an well-suited material for demanding industrial applications.

Technical Properties of Stainless Steel

Stainless steel contains a minimum of 10.5% chromium, which naturally forms a protective oxide layer. This layer self-regenerates if damaged, ensuring long-lasting protection. Common grades such as 304L and 316L provide specific properties suited to various industrial applications, including nickel for improved ductility and corrosion resistance and titanium-enhanced grades for improved high-temperature performance. Advanced grades such as Lean Duplex, Duplex, and Super Duplex offer even greater mechanical strength and corrosion resistance.

Applications of Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is widely used across many industrial sectors, particularly in the food processing and chemical industries. Its corrosion resistance and ease of maintenance make it a widely used material for manufacturing tanks and accessories such as flanges and manholes. Its use also extends to hygienic applications requiring strict sanitary standards.

Bolted Stainless Steel Tank Applications

Our bolted stainless steel tanks are designed for a wide range of applications, including the storage of industrial effluents in the food processing and pharmaceutical sectors, the biological treatment of effluents, and the storage of process water, demineralised or reverse osmosis (RO) water, or potable water. Certain stainless steel grades are particularly well-suited for the construction of mesophilic or triphasic digesters. Thanks to their exceptional corrosion resistance, some grades of stainless steel are especially effective in corrosive gas atmospheres such as hydrogen sulphide (H₂S)-rich environments.

FAQs – Stainless Steel Tanks

Do you have questions about stainless steel tanks? Here are answers to the most frequently asked questions to help you better understand their advantages, performance, and applications.

What is the lifespan of stainless steel tanks?

Stainless steel tanks have an exceptionally long service life, often exceeding 50 years with proper maintenance. Their natural corrosion resistance and mechanical strength make them a reliable, reliable long-term storage solution for industrial facilities.

How is stainless steel protected against corrosion?

Corrosion resistance is provided by the passive chromium oxide layer that naturally forms on the surface of stainless steel. This layer regenerates automatically if damaged, ensuring continuous protection without requiring additional protective coatings.

What types of liquids can be stored in these tanks?

Stainless steel tanks can safely store a wide range of liquids, including potable water, food-grade liquids, and various industrial fluids. For certain chemically aggressive products, a compatibility assessment is required.
